Ambassador ZHANG Jun Visits Happy Street

H. E. Ambassador ZHANG Jun and Madam TIAN Liying recently visited Happy Street, the Dutch National Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo during their annual leave in China. They were accompanied by Mr. Eric Verwaal, Dutch Consul General to Shanghai and Mr. Walter van Weelden, the Netherlands’ Commissioner General for the Shanghai World Expo.

After the visit, Ambassador ZHANG received interviews from present Dutch media. He noted that the Shanghai World Expo was a grand gathering for people across the world, which provided a golden opportunity for countries to display their rich cultural heritage, economic achievement and ideas for sustainable development. He remarked that Happy Street was permeated with the wisdom of Dutch people, and was an embodiment of Dutch technology, culture and art design. It demonstrated the accomplishment of Dutch people in technological innovation, clean energy, urbanization and sustainable development. Since the opening, Happy Street has become a major window for Chinese people to get a closer look on the Netherlands, to know more about the Netherlands and to understand the Netherlands. In the meantime, the Shanghai World Expo served as an important platform for people across the world including Dutch friends to learn more about the essence of Chinese culture, the economic development and the social progress in China. It would greatly promote the cultural exchanges between different peoples and enhance mutual understanding and friendship.
