During his meeting with Prime Minister Balkenende, Hu said with the joint efforts of both sides, the Sino-Dutch friendly cooperative relationship has witnessed sound and stable development in recent years. China attached great importance to Sino-Dutch relations and was willing to join hands with the Netherlands to promote the development of bilateral relations, he said. Hu called on both sides to strengthen political trust, continue to respect and care for each other's core interests and major concerns, and increase people-to-people exchanges. He urged both countries to tap their respective advantages to push forward pragmatic cooperation. He called on both sides to upgrade cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, water conservancy and technology, and at the same time carry out more cooperation in areas of high-end manufacturing, biotechnology, environmental protection and new energy resources. Both sides should expand humanities exchanges. He urged both sides to continue boosting exchanges and cooperation between their colleges and universities, increase the number of students studying in each other's country, enhance two-way tourism and exchanges at local levels and strengthen cultural and art exchanges. Hu also called for efforts from both countries to strengthen communication and coordination in addressing climate change and reforming global economic governance structure. Both sides should oppose protectionism and contribute to global economic recovery, he said, adding foreign companies including Dutch enterprises were welcome to invest in China.

Balkenende fully agreed with Hu's important proposals on furthering bilateral ties, saying that with the joint efforts of both sides, bilateral relations have been developing very well with closer economic and trade ties, increasing cooperation between businesses and more dynamic exchanges in the areas of trade, investment, culture and tourism. Both sides share a lot of common language and sound cooperation in international affairs. He said the Netherlands would join China to carry out pragmatic cooperation in all sectors, deepen dialogue and enhance mutual exchanges. China had made great achievements in both economic and social development and the Netherlands believed that China would play an important role in international community, Balkenende said. He said the Netherlands was willing to cooperate with China in the G20, tackling climate change and opposing protectionism. Balkenende said the Netherlands would adhere to the one-China policy and respect China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
