On March 28, 2024, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his election as President of the Republic of Senegal.

Xi Jinping pointed out that since China and Senegal established diplomatic relations, the two countries have embraced ever-stronger political mutual trust, fruitful achievements in practical cooperation, and close coordination on international affairs. As co-chairs of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the two countries will jointly host a FOCAC summit in China this year. Noting that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Senegal relations, Xi said he stands ready to work with President-elect Bassirou Diomaye Faye to support each other, enhance solidarity and cooperation, jointly deliver a successful FOCAC summit, and advance the development of China-Senegal and China-Africa relations, so as to better benefit the people of both sides.
